About Me

Township of Amaranth building with flags and snow under a clear blue sky.

My background

I have been a resident of Amaranth for my entire life, except when I was away in school. I have been a taxpayer in Amaranth my entire adult life. My wife and I have raised three children in Amaranth and have run small businesses here as well.

I was first elected to Amaranth Council in 2014 and was acclaimed as Deputy Mayor in 2018. The reason I am running has not changed in all that time, it is to give back to the community and to help people in any way I can.

Since being elected in 2014 I have volunteered over 1,000 hours of my time to allow youth to access activities within the Township as well as 4 years of volunteering with Laurelwoods Elementary School to coach their boy’s volleyball team at no cost to the Township.

I have also increased community and youth engagement by creating and personally funding new committees comprised of volunteers with no staff involvement at no cost to the Township to allow residents greater say in the direction of the community.

My top goals

CONTINUED ENGAGEMENT – I will build on the work completed previously where I have formed committees resulting in over 25 new community volunteer positions. I will look for additional ways to engage more residents.

A VOICE FOR YOUTH – I have delivered on my 2014 campaign promise to engage more youth by funding a program for youth activities while also adding seven (7) committee positions specifically to give youth a voice in our community. I will continue to do this by creating a Youth Committee to address issues of importance to the youth of Amaranth at no cost to the taxpayers.

TRANSPARENCY – I will continue to champion a more transparent budget process as I have in the past by advocating for a Public Special Council Meeting specifically to discuss the annual budget before passing as well as successfully reducing the frequency of Closed Meetings.

OUTREACH – I will commit to a minimum of three (3) Mayor’s Townhall meetings per year to be held throughout the Township at no cost to the taxpayer so residents can voice their opinions without having to travel to a council meeting.

My successes

IMPROVING DIGITAL ACCESS - During my terms on council I have been able to deliver high speed internet to the County and the Township being personally involved in first project through NFTC which has now gone live and another project through Rogers that will serve the entire Township by early 2023.

FAIR AND JUST - I have stood up for the democratic process and tenets of the Municipal Act throughout this term by refusing to turn a blind eye to the abuse of power being repeatedly exerted to the detriment of the taxpayers.

KEEPING COSTS DOWN AND REVENUES UP – I have consistently been mindful of the cost of services while at the same time pursuing and facilitating valuable development within the Township. I successfully negotiated a $500,000 payment to the Township from the Town of Orangeville for the use of the Pullen Well
